Diversity Equity & Inclusion— Understanding Implicit Bias and Racism

Overview

Creating an Inclusive Environment
  • Management of diversity and inclusion: examining systemic diversity in the contexts of organizational structure, team building and leadership.
  • Cultural challenges and ways to address anti-oppressive practices in the workplace.
Neutralizing Unconscious Bias
  • Aimed at reducing discrimination in the workplace as inequality continues to be a significant problem in all societies and can manifest in the workplace.
  • Identifies the psychological processes that influence the way people interact with individuals who are demographically dissimilar from them.
  • Examines how professionals can enhance work practices and foster an environment that effectively supports employee potential.
Coping with Stereotype Threat
  • Identifies the impact of privilege and oppression and the potential power dynamics of race, sex, class, heteronormativity, ability, age, and religion.
  • Addresses ‘Respectability Politics’ and the cognitive and physiological impact of racism on the individual. Focus is placed on: “double consciousness,” bicultural identity, hyper-vigilance and the effects of toxic-stress on the body.

 

About The Speaker
Trélan Nicole Holder, MS, LCSW is a skilled psychotherapist with extensive years of counseling experience in mental health and human services. Trélan attained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Clark University, her Master of Science Degree in Social Work from Columbia University, and a Certificate in Bioethics and Medical Humanities from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Cardozo Law School. Additionally, her clinical pursuits include: a postgraduate certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy training from the NYU Institute for Psycho-analytic Education. Trélan is an Adjunct Lecturer at Columbia University School of Social Work.
